Welcome To St. Monica's Hostel AND RESTAURANT
Is Situated in the precints of the beatiful and historic Anglican Cathedral Church which is built on the site of the former slave market: within a short walking distance of the stone town open market. Ask for a room with a balcony.
The main building used to be a hostel of nuns & the annex was a missionary hospital, built over slave chambers.
After the abolition of slave trade in 1873, the Cathedral was built on the site of the former slave market. The market was an open space surrounded by small houses & the whipping post stood at the centre, exactly where the High alter now stands.
